Rules and Regulations
Revised January 1, 2025
MAUSOLEUM CRYPTS (Inside and Outside)
Memorial Tributes or decorations of any nature may not be glued, taped, or wired to affix them to the marble or granite. Any damage to the stone will be your responsibility. For safety reasons, please do not place plants, vases, or decorations on the walkway outside the Mausoleum.
Bronze vases attached to the stone can be filled ONLY with artificial flowers. Please note that NO fresh flowers or water in these vases are permitted. For your convenience, please note that bronze lettering, vases, angels, and other decorations must be purchased through the Berlin Cemetery Office.
The Cemetery is pleased to make available Emblems of religion, military, and civilian organizations for purchase, including ceramic photos. The cemetery staff can remove all personal photos to maintain a uniform and respectful appearance. This is part of our commitment to preserving the dignity of the Mausoleum.
The Cemetery will use a 1 1/2” tray to be placed under each casket before entombment, providing a clean and effective closing.
Cremation Niches (Inside Mausoleum and Outside niches)
When purchasing urns for the glass-front niches, please have the deceased's full name, date of birth, and date of death engraved on the urn, and ensure it is sealed properly.
Bronze lettering for the Marble Niches is also available through the Cemetery Office.
Mausoleum Times for Visitation
The Mausoleum will be open from 10 am to 3 pm Monday through Friday. A key will be provided for your convenience if you need to visit after 3 pm or on weekends. Please ask the Cemetery office for assistance.
Plots
With a loving heart, we ask that you maintain your loved one's plots respectfully and dignifiedly. Items prohibited on or around gravesites in the Berlin Cemetery include but no limited to: Sheppard's hooks, flag poles, solar lights, metal signs, and other items placed in the ground that may interfere with the landscapers' job. Materials prohibited on or around gravesites in the Berlin Cemetery include but are not linited to beds of stone, gravel, marbles, pebbles, brick, concrete, mulch, or other materials preventing landscapers from completing their work. At the Berlin Cemetery Association, we all share responsibility for preserving our Cemetery's peaceful, calming atmosphere. Your cooperation in this matter is greatly appreciated.
Please do not plant any shrubs or plants in the interment space. They grow quickly, and their roots move the stone, causing it to fall and break. This will result in a charge to replace the stone with a new foundation.
We ask that anything interfering with the landscapers' ability to cut the grass be removed immediately. The landscapers move around the area, causing it to be overgrown and unsightly.
Cemetery Cleanup
The Association will remove all faded floral designs, dead flowers, broken and faded flags, deflated and worn Mylar Balloons, stuffed animals, and any containers or other objects left at the grave site for long periods.
Artistic Grave Designs
We understand that some families are more artistically connected in their tributes and love to create the appropriate area surrounding their loved ones. The Association must approve such artistic designs before the family engages in their work. A letter, the design sketch, and the materials to be used will be sent to the Berlin Cemetery Association for approval at the Board Members Meeting. If approved by the Board Members, a fee of $700 will be charged for permission to prepare such an application and for any future hardships for landscapers to do their job correctly around the artwork.
Please understand that the Association MUST approve the design and materials used. Families are responsible for maintaining the site to the utmost version. Families are responsible for pulling weeds and maintaining the design to perfection. Failure to do so allows the Association to take down the artwork and seed the existing plot.
Miscellaneous Rules
Planting shrubs in a continuous row to subdivide or separate graves within a lot is not permitted. If you hire an outside service to maintain the lot, they must first register with the cemetery office. It is IMPERATIVE that they are licensed and insured. A copy of the documents should be handed to the office for future use. Any rubbish or debris created by the owner or his employed representative must be disposed of by them and not left at the site.
The Association may inspect graves, niches, and crypts at any time to ensure they are neat, clean, and free of weeds. If you currently have a Sheppard's Hook on a grave, please remove it immediately.
We thank you in advance for following these rules and regulations. Your adherence to these guidelines is crucial in ensuring our Cemetery's safety and cleanliness. Together, we will preserve its serene calmness while securing its historical essence.
